Overview

Cooks at Miso Phat Sushi prepare non-sushi menu items, such as tempura, miso soup, and other Japanese-inspired dishes, to complement our sushi offerings. Based at the Maui Coast Hotel, cooks ensure consistency and quality in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Food Preparation: Cook appetizers, sides, and hot dishes (e.g., shrimp tempura, miso soup) according to standardized recipes. Ensure proper cooking techniques and presentation.
  • Kitchen Operations: Maintain a clean and organized workstation, adhering to food safety and sanitation standards. Monitor cooking equipment for proper function.
  • Coordination: Work closely with sushi chefs and prep cooks to ensure timely preparation and delivery of dishes to servers and food runners.
  • Inventory Management: Assist with inventory checks for ingredients like vegetables, tempura batter, and broth components, reporting shortages to management.
  • Quality Control: Inspect ingredients for freshness and quality, ensuring all dishes meet Miso Phat’s high standards.
  • Team Support: Assist with prep tasks during off-peak hours and support the kitchen team during busy periods.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 1–2 years of cooking experience in a restaurant kitchen, preferably with Japanese or Asian cuisine.
  • Skills: Knowledge of cooking techniques (frying, steaming, boiling), ability to follow recipes, and strong time management.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs., and work in a hot kitchen environment.
  • Certifications: Food handler’s certification required.
  • Availability: Flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Preferred: Familiarity with Japanese ingredients and flavors.
